The Rabbit Ideas mission is to provide easy and fun activity ideas for busy parents and early years professionals.

“Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen.”

John Steinbeck

On the blog you will find lots of exciting activities and inspiration to help you engage young children. Giving them a positive learning experience from the start.

The Rabbit Ideas community thrives on sharing ideas and experiences, we love to hear how you have taken these ideas and had fun with your little ones.

I’m Jenny Rumney, founder of Rabbit Ideas, education professional and mum of two.

I created Rabbit Ideas after being asked by fellow parents about early years development. As I read more and more of what people were increasingly discussing online, I realised that I had only witnessed the tip of the iceberg of the worries, anxieties and even just curiosities parents have. Things like:

–  Is it normal that my child can’t write their name yet?

–  When do we need to start teaching them phonics?

–  What if they won’t sit still and listen to a story?

–  How can I create constructive play opportunities for them?

–  How do you introduce science with toddlers?

–  Why would you want to do that?

As anyone in education knows, there are no definitive answers to these questions. Educational theory and emphasis changes at least once or twice with every government we have.

I didn’t to want to get bogged down with what x ‘guru’ or y ‘expert’ was saying in that moment about a specific part of the curriculum, because I have never felt that those conversations lead anywhere productive.

But I wanted to help. I wanted to support parents who were not necessarily from an education background.

So, I started the Rabbit Ideas blog. A place for parents, carers and early years professionals to find activity ideas they could use right away.

On the blog you will find categories for:

–  Early reading

–  Early writing and fine motor

–  Speaking and Listening

–  STEAM (Science technology, engineering, arts and maths)

…as well as others. I hope that you find useful ideas here, which develop into many more.

My Background

As a secondary school teacher and parent to two boys, I have clocked up many hours of experience on both sides of the fence, so to speak, both with other people’s children, as teenagers, and my own, as pre-schoolers.

I have been an active volunteer for many years for a range of organisations, and have broad experience in working with children and young people, both in person, and also behind the scenes by supporting other volunteers. This has given me an insight into what the needs and interests are of both parents and children. I use this insight to develop and improve ideas which can easily be put into practice to support early learning.

As well as looking after my own children and running the Rabbit Ideas blog, I offer the following services to schools, nurseries, preschools and businesses in the field of education:

– Writing services, including newsletters, emails, communications to customers/parents, or longer form content such as brochures and prospectuses.

– Social media support; running Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest accounts. This can be done on a short or long term basis, depending on your requirements.

– Phone or skype session exploring how you could best use social media for your organisation.
